I've worked on a lot of different projects during my time at Todd Oldham Studio so I created this page as a mini cross-section of the roles and responsibilities I've held as a designer.
Packaging Design: Paper Mâché Playspace
Creating unique and eye-catching packaging for products, from first sketch to creating technical files for production. Keeping a clear focus on environmentally friendly alternatives, using no plastic and emphasizing re-usability whenever possible.

Project Brief: "We are going to be working with a mascot for this brand and I’d like to see your interpretation. At the moment [the brand] is about the joy and wonder of coloring, and using supplies like crayons and paints with bold color."
Packaging Design: Creating Textures and Patterns
We wanted to find ways to incorporate textures of art supplies into their packaging, showing off what was in the box through their color stories and mark making. For the Smush Crayons, I wanted to develop a flexible pattern that used a Voronoi diagram.
Voronoi diagrams are a mathematical formula of dividing a plane into geometric regions, but more relevant to me, they are also a texturing feature in the 3D modeling software Blender. The ID team found that this computer generated pattern is the best way to simulate the random color combinations of wax that Smush Crayons have when we render them. I used this visual similarity as a jumping off point to create a crayon-mark packaging pattern.
The project started by scribbling a wide range of crayon textures and tracing a Voronoi diagram (build your own using this generator!). The two elements were mashed together to create a rainbow gradient that brings the joy of mark-making and the unique texture of Smush Crayons together.

Crafting
Testing product samples and creating photo-worthy crafts for packaging and promotion.

Product Brainstorming
Thinking broadly about how to create new products that are educational, engaging, and appealing to market.
I used a combination of physical and digital sketches, reference images, and quick 3D models to quickly and efficiently communicate new product ideas to other members of the design team.
